The National Robotics Festival promotes Science and Technology among young people, teachers, researchers and the general public, through autonomous robot competitions. This event takes place in a different city every year.

The National Robotics Festival 2018 includes the IEEE International Conference on Autonomous Robot Systems and Competitions (ICARSC 2018), where national and foreign researchers in the area of Robotics are given the opportunity to present their latest research results in their area.

Robotic competitions are designed to promote innovative and enterprising spirit in children and young people through active teaching methods, as well as the acquisition of transversal competences. These competitions are also important to disseminate this area to the public in general.

In the National Robotics Festival, the Portuguese teams are qualified for Robocup, a world-class robotics competition that brings together the best teams in each country, and in which Portugal has already a track record of good results.

The National Robotics Festival has two types of competition: Junior and Senior.

The senior competition includes the following modalities: MSL (Middle Size League) (Robocup), 2D Simulation (Robocup), 3D Simulation (Robocup), Rescue Simulation (Robocup), Standard Platform League (Robocup), Autonomous Driving, Robot @ Factory and Freebots.

The Junior competition includes the following categories: Junior Search and Rescue (RoboCup), RoboCup Junior (RoboCup), Onstage (RoboCup) and Freebots Junior.

The First Global qualifying event will be held simultaneously. This competition follows the rules of this event.

Other activities (National Robotics Festival 2018 at Expo Torres, in Torres Vedras):

• Track Tracking Test - Robot Test with its own rules- for those starting in the area of programming and robotics
• Exhibitions/Demonstrations of projects of the various robotics clubs from Primary schools to the junior high schools
• Workshops in the area of ​​programming and robotics
• Other demonstrations/exhibitions
